  I am a current freshman at UNC Chapel Hill and a Delta Member of Alpha Delta Pi, Beta Upsilon chapter. I am also a Tarheel born and bred. My parents met at Chapel Hill, where my mom was an Alpha Delta Pi and my dad was Delta Upsilon. And while they encouraged me to consider other schools besides Chapel Hill, I always knew this is where I would call home. Since arriving on campus last fall, every moment I have spent here has affirmed my belief that Chapel Hill is a little piece of Heaven. Walking through campus I feel an innate sense of belonging here, and I know that is in part because of Alpha Delta Pi.

            Specifically because my mom was an ADPi at Beta Upsilon, I tried to be as open minded as possible during Recruitment. I wanted to find the right place for me, and my mom was encouraging of this mindset. And although Recruitment only offers a limited perspective of a chapter’s character, from what I saw, I could feel ADPi calling me home. It was something about the way the sisters interacted with each other that appealed to me, it was genuine, considerate, and something I wanted to be a part of. Since joining, I’ve had the joy of building relationships with women of all ages, and of enjoying the support of a large and strong sisterhood. I’ve also grown closer to my mom (historically we have not had much in common) but now we have a special bond to share in every day. Because of my schedule in the fall semester, I was never able to come to meals at the house. This spring semester though, I am there almost every day, and I’ve found the house to really start feeling like a home to me.

            My experience in Beta Upsilon has continued to be more and more rewarding as the year has progressed. Since joining, I have continuously built relationships and been exposed to amazing opportunities and experiences.  In gratitude to my sisters in Beta Upsilon and nationally, I have become consciously aware of what it means to wear the letters of Alpha Delta Pi. The opening statements of the Creed of Alpha Delta Pi best describe this, “I believe in Alpha Delta Pi. I believe that my sorority is more than a ritual or a symbol; that it is a way of life.” Having experienced and witnessed firsthand the positive impacts Alpha Delta Pi has on its members and the community, I can truly say that I believe in Alpha Delta Pi. I know that it is more than a ritual or symbol, because it has already been so much more than that to me. It’s a cozy chair in the living room where I can work on homework and feel like I’m at home, its conversation at lunch with a senior girl I’ve just met, it’s the stories and laughter from the 75th reunion, it’s running the Ron-A-Thon with my mom, Alpha Delta Pi is so much more than just letters.

            Because I believe in Alpha Delta Pi, it has become a way of life for me. When I am wearing my letters, or even when I am not, I know that I am always representing my sorority. I take this very seriously, because ADPi has done her best for me, and so I want to do my best to honor her, as the least I can do. I know that I am a representative of ADPis nationally, and I hope that every thing I do reflects positively on our sorority. It is important to me that I can contribute to our image as women of integrity.
